Natural Gas is Renewable

177 million Americans use natural gas to heat their homes, warm their water and cook their food and that number continues to increase. Did you know that natural gas can be produced from animal waste, landfills, crop residuals and food waste? Once processed, it is interchangeable with traditional natural gas.

 

Combating Climate Change

While a vocal opposition movement is talking about radical solutions to climate change, natural gas is actually delivering solutions that work for the environment and help you improve your quality of life. Former President Obama’s EPA administrator Gina McCarthy said, “Natural gas has been a game-changer with our ability to really move forward with pollution reductions that have been very hard to get our arms around for decades.”

 

The increased use of natural gas to generate electricity has driven carbon emissions to nearly 25-year lows. America is leading the world in reducing carbon emissions. Emissions of the six most widespread pollutants, including carbon monoxide, ozone and lead, have been significantly cut since 2000, while the use of natural gas has increased by over 43 percent. Despite what the opposition says, studies show natural gas is helping to make the planet a healthier place for our families.

Renewable energy’s best friend

Solar, wind and hydropower need help. They can’t produce energy that is available around the clock. So when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, natural gas provides immediate, consistent support to these renewable resources to make sure you have the energy you need when you need it. It’s no wonder that when economists surveyed 26 countries they found that natural gas and renewable energy increase in a nearly one-to-one ratio.
