Clean

You can breathe a little easier thanks to natural gas.

Natural gas produces lower levels of emissions than other energy sources, helping to protect the environment and all of us. So while U.S. natural gas production has risen significantly, our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions have dropped to their lowest level in over 25 years. That’s a win-win situation for us and for our planet.

The increased use of natural gas means that you’re enjoying cleaner, healthier air. This helps prevent respiratory diseases like COPD and asthma. By reducing these illnesses and others, the healthcare savings from using natural gas could be as high as $50 billion, according to researchers from Carnegie Mellon University.

Natural Gas is the cleanest fossil fuel and has many advantages over other fuels. It has fewer impurities, is less chemically complex, and its combustion results in less pollution.

  • The increased use of natural gas has reduced carbon emissions nationwide to a 25-year low.

  • Using natural gas to generate electricity lessens widespread pollutants, providing cleaner, healthier air while drastically reducing healthcare costs for respiratory issues.

  • Natural gas provides environmental benefits: increased use gas can help address several environmental concerns simultaneously, including smog, acid rain and greenhouse gas emissions

Natural gas is a relatively clean burning fossil fuel

Burning natural gas for energy results in fewer emissions of nearly all types of air pollutants and carbon dioxide (CO2) than burning coal or petroleum products to produce an equal amount of energy. About 117 pounds of carbon dioxide are produced per million British thermal units (MMBtu) equivalent of natural gas compared with more than 200 pounds of CO2 per MMBtu of coal and more than 160 pounds per MMBtu of distillate fuel oil. The clean burning properties of natural gas have contributed to increased natural gas use for electricity generation and as a transportation fuel for fleet vehicles in the United States. Natural Gas has made the U.S. an Environmental Leader

Natural Gas is an important tool in the suite of greenhouse gas emissions reduction options available to the United States and a necessary component to limit carbon dioxide emissions nationwide. Natural gas use will increase as states move to further reduce carbon dioxide emissions from electric power generation.

  • Florida is the second largest producer of electricity after Texas.

  • Natural gas fueled 74% of Florida's electricity net generation in 2019.
